Gili islands are famous for sea turtles, there are many Green turtles and Hawskbill turtle. Some dive sites, you can see -20 turtles and some giant.
Sharks are also easy to meet especialy around Gili Trawangan. Some dive sites are more convenient : Shark point (of course), Sunset/Manta point, Halik.
A new dive site for sharks is the wreck Glenn Nusa
Since 2016, there is a new wreck on the west of Gili Trawangan
Now, there are often sharks around the wreck. This dive site is only for Advanced divers (Depth 30m)
However, we can meet sharks also around Gili Air and Gili Meno.
Types of sharks in Gili islands – Lombok
Two species are easy to spot : Whitetip reef shark and Blacktip reef shark.
Bamboo shark lives also here, but it is rare to see it.
And if you are lucky, you can see a Whale shark.
